    Human

    Source / Purification

Monoclonal antibody is produced by immunizing animals with a synthetic peptide corresponding to residues surrounding Phe727 of human Ceruloplasmin protein.

    Background

Ceruloplasmin is a copper-binding glycoprotein with ferroxidase activity. It oxidizes Fe2+ to Fe3+, facilitating iron transport across the cell membrane (1). Mutation in Ceruloplasmin causes aceruloplasminemia, an autosomal recessive disorder of iron metabolism characterized by iron accumulation in the brain as well as visceral organs, resulting in retinal degeneration, diabetes mellitus and neurological disturbances (2,3). Ceruloplasmin level in serum has been explored as a diagnostic marker for Wilson disease and ischemic heart disease (4,5).
