    Protocol

    Specificity / Sensitivity

Cav2.3/CACNA1E Antibody recognizes endogenous levels of total Cav2.3 protein.

    Species Reactivity:

    Human, Mouse, Rat

    Source / Purification

Polyclonal antibodies are produced by immunizing animals with a synthetic peptide corresponding to residues surrounding Pro1039 of mouse Cav2.3 protein. Antibodies are purified by peptide affinity chromatography.

    Background

Voltage-sensitive calcium channels (VSCCs) mediate the entry of calcium ions into excitable cells. VSCCs are involved in a variety of calcium-dependent processes, including muscle contraction, hormone or neurotransmitter release, gene expression, cell motility, cell division, and cell death. Calcium channel, voltage-dependent, R type, alpha 1E subunit (CACNA1E) or Cav2.3 is encoded by the CACNA1E gene (1,2).  In the brain, Cav2.3 has been implicated in synaptic plasticity (3,4). Interestingly, Cav2.3 may contribute to some neurodegenerative diseases like Parkinson’s disease (5).
