Cell Signaling Technology (CST) a life science company providing advanced solutions to enable life science discovery and research, today announced a sponsorship of the International Institute for Sustainable Laboratories (I2SL), a global leader providing information and education to ensure safe, sustainable laboratory design, operation, and use. As part of the partnership, CST is a founding sponsor of I2SL's Labs2Zero program, a new initiative helping to accelerate the decarbonization of the world's laboratories and high-tech research facilities.
“CST is passionate about sustainable laboratory design, operations, and equipment use, though our commitment to decarbonization doesn't end with our own facilities,” said Anthony Michetti, Director of Sustainability at CST. “Our sponsorship of I2SL and the launch of the Labs2Zero program will help advance laboratory sustainability initiatives globally to ensure organizations committed to the cause have the tools and resources they need to achieve success. I2SL is part of a larger ecosystem of lab sustainability nonprofits that we want to empower to advance this mission worldwide.”
The Labs2Zero program will help laboratory owners, operators, designers, engineers, and users better understand their energy use and carbon footprint through a variety of tools currently in development. The program will provide participating facilities with suggestions for tailored actions to reduce energy and emissions, as well as associated reduction and return on investment estimates and relevant case studies. As a founding sponsor and lab sustainability leader, CST Sustainability Director Anthony Michetti is on the Labs2Zero Leadership Council, which governs the program and its technical advisory councils (TACs).
CST is also sponsoring I2SL's Circular Economy for Labs (CEL) Community of Practice, where campus sustainability managers and users will collaborate on ways to divert materials from landfills, address toxicity, encourage thoughtful purchasing, and reduce lab carbon footprints. The community also reaches out to lab product and equipment suppliers and manufacturers to address key issues and encourage producer responsibility for packaging and waste.
Support of I2SL is part of CST's commitment to 1% for the Planet, through which the company has promised to donate at least 1% of its total annual revenue to a network of nonprofit organizations tackling the world's most pressing environmental issues. After nomination by CST, I2SL has been added to 1% for the Planet's nonprofit network as an environmental partner
“I2SL is grateful to CST for being a Diamond Founding Sponsor of the Labs2Zero program to reduce the carbon footprint of research,” said I2SL President Gordon Sharp. “Through 1% for the Planet, CST also supports I2SL's broader educational mission by sponsoring our virtual, international Education Week and a community of practice dedicated to reducing the impact of lab purchasing, operations, and disposal.”
CST will be participating in I2SL's 2023 Annual Conference and Technology Fair, to be held October 22-25 in Anaheim, California.
