Streptavidin (FITC Conjugate) #34524

    Product Information

    Product Description

Streptavidin is conjugated to fluorescein isothiocyanate (FITC) fluorescent dye under optimal conditions and is useful for detecting biotinylated proteins (1,2).

    Storage

Store at 4°C. This product is stable for 12 months after receipt and is supplied in 10 mM HEPES, 0.15 M NaCl (pH 7.5), and 0.08% sodium azide. If further dilution of the conjugate is required, it is recommended to use a HEPES-, bicarbonate-, or phosphate-buffered saline solution.

Protect from light. Avoid multiple freeze/thaw cycles.

    Specificity / Sensitivity

Streptavidin has a remarkably high affinity for its natural ligand, biotin. The complex and irregular structure of the biotin-binding site makes it highly optimized for biotin binding and confers great specificity to the streptavidin-biotin complexes (4).

    Source / Purification

Streptavidin is a protein that is derived from the bacteria Streptomyces avidinii. Streptavidin (FITC Conjugate) is purified by filtration.

    Background

Streptavidin is a 53 kDa homotetramer isolated from Streptomyces avidinii for use in isolation and detection bioassays (3). Each streptavidin subunit forms high affinity non-covalent bonds with the vitamin biotin. Because of its strong non-covalent interaction with biotin, streptavidin can be used to isolate and detect biotinylated proteins (1,2).
