Mouse EGF Recombinant Protein #67074

    Product Information

    Storage

Mouse EGF Recombinant Protein is supplied as lyophilized material that is very stable at -20ºC. It is recommended to reconstitute with sterile water at a concentration of 0.1 mg/mL which can be further diluted in aqueous solutions as needed. Addition of a carrier protein (0.1% HSA or BSA) is recommended for long-term storage.

Once in solution, store at 4ºC and use within 1 month, or store at -20ºC to -80ºC and use within 3 months to prevent loss of potency. Aliquot to avoid multiple freeze/thaw cycles if storing reconstituted material at -20ºC to -80ºC.

    Product Description

    MW (kDa) 6.2
Purity A greater than or equal to 95% purity was determined by SDS-PAGE.
Endotoxin Endotoxin levels are less than or equal to 1 EU / 1 μg mEGF.
Activity The bioactivity of recombinant mEGF was determined in a BALB/c 3T3 cell proliferation assay. The ED50 of each lot is less than or equal to 0.25 ng/mL.

    Source / Purification

Recombinant mouse EGF was expressed in E. coli and is supplied in a lyophilized form.

    Background

The epidermal growth factor (EGF) is produced by epithelial cells, fibroblasts, and many other cell types (1,2). Low molecular weight soluble EGF is generated through proteolysis of a larger ~130,000 molecular weight transmembrane precursor (1,2). Both soluble and membrane forms of EGF are active (2). EGF induces proliferation, differentiation, and survival of many cell types, including tumor-derived cells (1-3). The EGF and HER/ErbB EGF receptor (EGFR) families have multiple members. EGF binds to HER1/ErbB1 and induces homodimerization or heterodimerization with other HER/ErbB members (1). Binding of EGF signals through the MAPK, PI3K/Akt, and Stat5 pathways (1). EGF, EGF family members, EGF receptors, and their signaling pathways are involved in many cancers and are targets for therapeutic intervention (1,2).
