    Product Information

    Product Description

The rapid protocol (RP) PathScan® RP Myelin Basic Protein Sandwich ELISA Kit is a solid phase sandwich enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) that detects endogenous levels of myelin basic protein in a reduced assay time of 1.5 hours. Incubation of cell lysates and detection antibody on the coated microwell plate forms a sandwich with myelin basic protein in a single step. The plate is then extensively washed and TMB reagent is added for signal development. The magnitude of absorbance for the developed color is proportional to the quantity of myelin basic protein. Learn more about your ELISA kit options here.

*Antibodies in this kit are custom formulations specific to kit.

    Protocol

    Specificity / Sensitivity

The PathScan® RP Myelin Basic Protein Sandwich ELISA Kit detects endogenous levels of myelin basic protein. The kit sensitivity is shown in Figure 1. This kit detects proteins from the indicated species, as determined through in-house testing, but may also detect homologous proteins from other species.

    Human, Mouse, Rat

    Background

Myelin basic protein (MBP) is an abundant central nervous system (CNS) myelin membrane protein that plays an important role in nerve myelination. Myelin sheaths are multi-layered membranes derived from oligodendrocytes that increase the conduction velocity of axonal impulses. MBP helps to adhere the cytoplasmic leaflets of adjacent oligodendrocyte membranes to one another. Several splice variants of MBP are expressed in cells and the protein is modified following translation (i.e., phosphorylation, methylation), which suggests additional membrane adhesion functions (1).
