    Specificity / Sensitivity

Firefly Luciferase (E9W9V) Rabbit mAb recognizes exogenously expressed proteins containing firefly luciferase (P. pyralis). This antibody may also recognize a non-specific band of unknown origin at 70 kDa in rat cell lines.

    Source / Purification

Monoclonal antibody is produced by immunizing animals with a synthetic peptide corresponding to residues surrounding Gln230 of firefly luciferase (P. pyralis) protein.

    Background

Luciferases are a group of enzymes that emit visible light in the presence of oxygen and luciferin. Firefly luciferase (FLuc) is a 62 kDa oxygenase isolated from the firefly, P. pyralis, that produces a yellow-green light with a peak emission wavelength of 550-570 nm (1). FLuc is widely used as a bioluminescent reporter, emitting light through an ATP-dependent reaction involving oxygen, D-luciferin, and a metal cation, typically magnesium (Mg2+) (2). FLuc is often genetically engineered into luciferase-containing plasmids as a reporter that can be measured by detection of firefly luciferase (P. pyralis) protein or its enzymatic activity (2,3).
