    Specificity / Sensitivity

GSTM1 Antibody recognizes endogenous levels of total GSTM1 protein.

    Species Reactivity:

    Mouse, Rat

    Source / Purification

Polyclonal antibodies are produced by immunizing animals with a synthetic peptide corresponding to residues surrounding Leu135 of human GSTM1 protein. Antibodies are purified by protein A and peptide affinity chromatography.

    Background

Glutathione S-transferase Mu 1, encoded by GSTM1, belongs to the superfamily of glutathione-S transferases (GSTs). It is a phase 2 enzyme involved in the inactivation of reactive oxygen species (ROS) and metabolism of xenobiotics, using glutathione and generating oxidized glutathione (1). Polymorphisms of the gene have been associated with nasopharyngeal cancer, laryngeal cancer, colorectal cancer, hypertension, and chronic kidney disease (1-3). In the brain, GSTM1 contributes to astrocyte-mediated enhancement of microglia activation during brain inflammation as it is required for nuclear factor κB (NF-κB) activation and proinflammatory mediator production (4).
