    Storage

Supplied in 10 mM sodium HEPES (pH 7.5), 150 mM NaCl, 100 µg/mL BSA, 50% glycerol, and less than 0.02% sodium azide. Store at –20°C. Do not aliquot the antibody.

    Protocol

    Specificity / Sensitivity

KIF21B (F6B6V) Rabbit mAb recognizes endogenous levels of total KIF21B protein. In certain mouse tissue lysates, a nonspecific band of unknown origin at 70 kDa is detected by western blot.

    Species Reactivity:

    Mouse, Rat

    Source / Purification

Monoclonal antibody is produced by immunizing animals with a synthetic peptide corresponding to residues surrounding Pro242 of mouse KIF21B protein.

    Background

Kinesin superfamily proteins (KIFs) are important molecular motors that control microtubule (MT) organization and dynamics in both axons and dendrites. KIFs also mediate the intracellular transport of various cargo, including vesicles, organelles, cellular proteins, and mRNAs, along MTs (1). Kinesin superfamily protein 21B (KIF21B) is implicated in several human neurological disorders, including delayed cognitive development and neurodevelopmental disorders associated with brain malformations (1,2). KIF21B has a critical role in the synaptic actin cytoskeleton, underlying the homeostatic scaling of neuronal firing and regulating neuronal dendritic tree branching and spine formation (3,4). Furthermore, KIF21B regulates neuronal migration independently of its motility on microtubules (5).
