    Metavinculin (F3R2D) Rabbit mAb recognizes endogenous levels of total metavinculin protein. Based on the sequence of the peptide antigen, this antibody is not expected to detect vinculin.

    Monoclonal antibody is produced by immunizing animals with a synthetic peptide corresponding to residues surrounding Pro943 of human metavinculin protein.

    Background

    Vinculin is a cytoskeletal protein localized to cell-matrix and cell-cell adhesion complexes with roles in cell adhesion, migration, and signal transduction (1). Metavinculin is a vinculin isoform resulting from alternative splicing containing a 68-residue insert (2).  Metavinculin is expressed in cardiac and smooth muscle (3), and mutations in the metavinculin insert are associated with various cardiomyopathies (4). Metavinculin protein functions in the cytoskeleton with roles in actin bundling, focal adhesion formation, and cell adhesion and migration (5-7).
