    Protocol

    Specificity / Sensitivity

NCAM2 Antibody recognizes endogenous levels of total NCAM2 protein. This antibody does not cross-react with NCAM1.

    Species Reactivity:

    Human, Mouse, Rat

    Source / Purification

Polyclonal antibodies are produced by immunizing animals with a synthetic peptide corresponding to residues surrounding Pro48 of human NCAM2 protein. Antibodies are purified by peptide affinity chromatography.

    Background

NCAM (neural cell adhesion molecule) is an adhesion glycoprotein with five extracellular immunoglobulin-like domains followed by two fibronectin type III repeats. Two NCAM paralogs (NCAM1 and NCAM2) are encoded in the mammalian genome, which encode NCAM/NCAM1 and NCAM2 proteins, respectively (1,2). As an adhesion molecule with brain-enriched expression, NCAM2 functions to drive axonal targeting, neurite branching, and synaptic development (2-4). NCAM2 is also genetically linked to Down syndrome and may play a role in neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer’s disease (2,5).
