    Source / Purification

Monoclonal antibody is produced by immunizing animals with a synthetic peptide corresponding to residues near the amino terminus of human NUFIP1 protein.

    Background

NUFIP1 (nuclear FMRP interacting protein 1) was identified as an RNA-binding protein shuttling between the nucleus and cytoplasm, and it associates with ribosomes in functional synaptoneurosomes (1). Reports have shown that NUFIP1 can function as a receptor for starvation-induced ribophagy to maintain protein homeostasis (2). Ribophagy is a selective form of autophagy targeting ribosomes (reviewed in 3). Lysosomal levels of NUFIP1 were increased upon inhibition of autophagy. Ribophagy was dependent on the ability of ribosome-associated NUFIP1 to interact with LC3B via a conserved LC3-interacting region (LIR) domain and recruit ribosomes to the autophagosome (2). Loss of NUFIP1 or its LC3B binding ability inhibited cell survival following starvation (2).
