    Human

    Source / Purification

Monoclonal antibody is produced by immunizing animals with a recombinant protein of human ornithine decarboxylase/ODC protein.

    Background

Ornithine decarboxylase (ODC) is a rate-limiting enzyme in polyamine biosynthesis. Studies found that ODC and polyamine levels are often increased, contributing to cancer cell proliferation (1). Deficiency of the ODC enzyme suppresses acute myeloid leukemia cell proliferation (2). In addition, oncogene products YAP and TAZ activate transcription of the ODC1 gene that encodes the ODC enzyme, leading to more polyamine biosynthesis. Enhanced polyamine levels mediate tumor growth driven by YAP and TAZ via a polyamine-eIF5A hypusination-LSD1 axis (3). Furthermore, continual efferocytosis of apoptotic cells by macrophages is promoted by converting arginine and ornithine, both from apoptotic cells, to putrescine by arginase-1 and ODC in macrophages. Putrescine enhances subsequent rounds of efferocytosis (4).
