    Protocol

    Specificity / Sensitivity

Presenilin 1 Antibody detects endogenous levels of the carboxy-terminal fragment of presenilin 1 (~22 kDa). The antibody detects the full length protein (55k Da) to a lesser extent.

    Species Reactivity:

    Human, Monkey

The antigen sequence used to produce this antibody shares 100% sequence homology with the species listed here, but reactivity has not been tested or confirmed to work by CST. Use of this product with these species is not covered under our Product Performance Guarantee.

Species predicted to react based on 100% sequence homology:

    Mouse

    Source / Purification

Polyclonal antibodies are produced by immunizing animals with a synthetic peptide corresponding to residues near valine 293 of human presenilin 1. Antibodies are purified by protein A and peptide affinity chromatography.

    Background

Presenilin 1 and presenilin 2 are transmembrane proteins belonging to the presenilin family. Mutation of presenilin genes has been linked to early onset of Alzheimer disease, probably due to presenilin's associated γ-secretase activity for amyloid-β protein processing (1,2). Endogenous presenilin mainly exists in a heterodimeric complex formed from the endoproteolytically processed amino-terminal (34 kDa) and carboxy-terminal (~20, 22, 23 kDa) fragments (CTF) (2,3).
