    Monoclonal antibody is produced by immunizing animals with a synthetic peptide corresponding to residues near the amino terminus of human R-Ras2 protein.

    Background

    R-Ras2 (TC21) belongs to the R-Ras subfamily of small GTPases, which includes R-Ras1 and R-Ras3 (M-Ras). Similar to the classical Ras proteins, R-Ras2 is palmitoylated and farnesylated at its carboxy terminus, which facilitates association with membranes and potent activation of the ERK/MAPK and PI3K signaling cascades. Research studies have identified a role for R-Ras2 in the homeostasis of the adaptive immune system by demonstrating that loss of R-Ras2 expression impairs the proliferation and survival of lymphocytes in both the T cell and B cell compartments (1-3). R-Ras2 has also been implicated in human cancers. Indeed, overexpression of R-Ras2 has been observed in both lymphoid malignancies and solid tumor settings, concomitant with hyperactivation of signaling nodes that drive cell proliferation and survival (1,3-5).
