    Source / Purification

Monoclonal antibody is produced by immunizing animals with a synthetic peptide corresponding to residues near the carboxy terminus of human VAMP5 protein.

    Background

Vesicle-associated membrane protein 5 (VAMP5), also known as myobrevin, is a member of the soluble N-ethylmaleimide-sensitive factor attachment protein receptor (SNARE) protein family, preferentially expressed in skeletal muscle and heart, with increased expression during myogenesis (1). While full functionality of VAMP5 is unknown, it has been shown to mediate exosome release through its interaction with SNAP47, syntaxin1, or syntaxin4 (2). VAMP5 has also been shown to promote Fcγ receptor-mediated phagocytosis and may play a role in regulating macrophage phagosome maturation (3). Plasma levels of VAMP5 are downregulated in Alzheimer’s disease (AD), identifying the protein as a potential blood biomarker for AD when paired with other key differentially expressed proteins (4).
