    Specificity / Sensitivity

Xanthine Dehydrogenase/Oxidase (E2U8Y) Rabbit mAb recognizes endogenous levels of total xanthine dehydrogenase/oxidase protein.

    Species Reactivity:

    Human

    Source / Purification

Monoclonal antibody is produced by immunizing animals with a synthetic peptide corresponding to residues surrounding Leu560 of human xanthine dehydrogenase/oxidase protein.

    Background

Xanthine dehydrogenase/oxidase is a rate-limiting enzyme in purine degradation. It catalyzes the oxidation of hypoxanthine to xanthine and the oxidation of xanthine to uric acid. The circadian rhythm of the expression of this enzyme and its enzymatic activity lead to circadian oscillation of uric acid concentrations in the liver and blood (1). In macrophages, the histone methyltransferase Setdb2 mediates the elevated expression of xanthine dehydrogenase/oxidase, and consequently, the increased production of uric acid. Pharmacological targeting of the uric acid pathway of purine degradation improves wound healing (2). In addition, research studies show that the xanthine oxidase activity of this enzyme contributes to the reactive oxygen species generation in macrophages and is essential in innate inflammatory signaling (3).
